Fun with Artemis-1 Design Concepts

The assignment here was coming up with a design to build excitement for rollout of the SLS rocket which will eventually carry the Artemis-1 mission. Several iterations later, the team voted on the design seen below. Reading on, I’ll take you through a few of the concepts involved before the final design was selected.

First step was creating a clear and simple outline of the SLS rocket which could be used as a design element within each concept choice. This was a fast turnaround project, so the decision to display a variety of “near complete” options would help the team make a more solid choice of which route to continue with. Below were the four choices presented.

Upon the team swiftly choosing the visual concept at top left, feedback also included replacing the typeface with the one used on the lower left. Another excellent suggestion was making the “I” look more like a “1.” After applying those changes, my next step was providing the design using three various color choices, seen below.

We concluded the final visual needed to be predominantly orange, and replacing the bottom choice with orange “Artemis” text would do the trick while leaving the “1” accentuated in blue.

Here is the end result which also looked swell on Navy.
