Project: Starliner OFT-2 Mission PATCH Design

The assignment for this project was preparing a mission patch style design to commemorate the launch of Starliner’s OFT-2 spacecraft. This was a fun challenge, as it was my first time creating a mission patch.

First step was three rough sketches depicting different configurations which the capsule could be presented. My hope was in the team choosing to continue with the center image, as it was visually the most dynamic… and the decision was unanimous!

I wanted to tackle a triangle-shaped border, so the next step was creating several variations, each presenting minor differences which could then be voted on and implemented into a final design. The team chose the bottom right variant with a couple changes.

We placed the two stars near the International Space Station and added a slight gradation to the triangle border. Below is the final artwork, and the halftone version which enables a brighter and more reliable print due to the removal of any color transparency.

The final design was offered on Black and Navy tees. Looking forward to more patch designs!
